Joydifashion is a photo series by Rotterdam-based photographer Stéphan Lam. This project features portraits of individuals from around the world, all proudly wearing Joy Division T-shirts. To date, Lam has photographed over 100 people, capturing these moments during encounters at music festivals and on the streets. Most photos were taken with a smartphone. Each image, presented in black and white, reflects the timeless and iconic nature of Joy Division's influence.
The project draws inspiration from the legendary album cover of Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures," designed by British artist Peter Saville. Regarded as one of the most iconic album covers ever, the design features a textured virtual landscape of radio waves from pulsar CP 1919, the first radio pulsar ever discovered. This signature wave pattern has become a widely appropriated design in fashion and art, symbolizing the enduring legacy of Joy Division's music.
